Westwood Elementary School is located in the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD). It was established in 1957, and parent-involvement has always been a wonderful part of our school culture. In 1961, the parents of Westwood planted a forest of native Californian trees and shrubs. The forest, like our school, is uniquely beautiful and still thriving today! Our campus also boasts beautiful school garden boxes, and themed flags.
From its early years, Westwood has grown into a total of twenty self-contained classrooms and currently is home to students from preschool through fifth grade. Sixteen of our classrooms support a learning environment of 20:1 ratio (grades K-3), and four classrooms support a learning environment of 33:1 ratio (grades 4 and 5). In addition there are four Pre-K special education classrooms, an English Language Development centers, a speech therapy room, a multi-purpose auditorium, a library, and a computer lab.
Westwood also takes a special, caring interest in the growing autistic community, and houses a Pre/K autistic classroom, a K/1st autistic classroom, and two autistic preschools. To meet the needs of all our students, Westwood also has on campus an ABA Center (Applied Behavioral Analysis), an OT (Occupational Therapy) Center, a PIP room, (Primary Intervention Program) and a Resource Room.
Many of our parents work within, or slightly outside, of Silicon Valley. To meet the needs of these working families, Westwood offers an onsite, before-school and after school daycare program.
Appreciation of the arts is an important aspect of our school culture. Westwood participates in the Starting Arts program, offering students (grades 1-5) after school programs in drama, art, music and dance. This program has been extremely well received. In addition, Westwood offers students (grades 3-5) lessons in certain musical instruments during school hours.
